Local youth team wins basketball tourney

PALMER — The Mat-Su Lady Mavericks recently captured the team title of the Interior Youth Basketball Veterans Day Tournament in Fairbanks.
The Lady Mavericks — a team of sixth- and seventh-grade girls from Colony and Teeland middle schools — finished 5-1 in the two-day tourney.
Mat-Su edged the Fairbanks Grizzlies 28-25 in the championship game.
Faith Farris and Bristyl Baker, a pair of Colony Middle School seventh-graders, were named to the all-tournament team.
