WASILLA — Teens trying to swap seats in an apparent attempt to disguise a DUI wound up throwing the car into reverse, hitting the patrol car that pulled them over.

According to an Alaska State Trooper press statement, at 4:12 p.m. Wednesday, troopers pulled over a car for erratic driving near the corner of the Parks and Palmer-Wasilla highways.

Troopers say a 17-year-old boy switched seats with a 16-year-old girl.

“While switching seats, the vehicle was placed into reverse and rolled backwards into the patrol vehicle,” troopers say.

The boy was arrested for DUI, driving on a revoked licensed, underage drinking and being a minor who was driving after drinking. The girl was arrested for the same charges except a charge of allowing an unauthorized person to drive was swapped out for the revoked license offense.

There was no damage to the patrol car, troopers report, and only minor damage to the other vehicle.

Vanormer wasn’t wearing a helmet and was hospitalized at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

Freeman’s vehicle, a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer, sustained minor damage. Freeman and three children in her vehicle were not injured, but Freeman was cited for not having one of the children in a car seat.
