Preps, juniors combine for pucks promotion

WASILLA — The Curtis C. Menard II Memorial Ice Arena will be hockey heaven for local pucks fans Friday night.

Teams at the prep and junior level will hit the Menard Arena ice for a special two games for the price of one promotion.

The Colony Knights and Houston Hawks start the night full of hockey with a game at 5 p.m. The Alaska Avalanche Junior A squad will host the Fairbanks Ice Dogs at 8 p.m.

“It’s nice to be able to help out with the high schools,” Alaska head coach Dave Boitz said. “Hopefully it’s a good night to see a bunch of hockey.”

The special night includes a list of special admission prices. Tickets are $3 for students. Tickets for adults are $6, if purchased in advance. Tickets for adults are also $8 at the door.

Tickets can be purchased at Infusion Boutique in Palmer, Cold Stone Creamery in Wasilla or Espresso Cafe in Wasilla.

The Colony-Houston match is one of a handful games scheduled for the opening week of the prep hockey season.

The first puck drops tonight at 7 p.m. at the Palmer Ice Arena. The Palmer Moose host the Eagle River Wolves in a nonconference contest. Palmer also travels to Anchorage to play West on Friday. Wasilla also opens the season in Anchorage on Friday agianst South.
