The Mat-Su chapter of the of The Alaska Police Officer’s Association would like to take this opportunity to remind all that October was Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Domestic violence takes a tremendous toll on Alaska’s families, and it is sad to say that Alaska leads the nation in incidents of domestic violence. If we as a community are serious in trying to reduce these incidents and remove this shameful distinction, we will have to develop an attitude of zero tolerance toward such behavior. We must encourage victims and witnesses to report these crimes to the police and we must also encourage the perpetrators to seek help.

Think about it. At just minimum wage, calculate that number by the number of those affected by DV.
We will round off $8.oo hr x 10,000 =
Alaska = $80,000.oo hour we lose...
Add the other 49 states at the same #
and that comes to $ 41,600,000.oo hour
our Nation loses to domestic-violence.
How much would that be daily?
$ 998,400,000.oo per day to DV...
What can we do to get these wages in our nations economy? "

Listen carefully to your friends. Be supportive and encourage them to consider alternatives. Our community has safe houses and many avenues to assist these victims. Not only are partners victims but in most cases there are children involved. Our police deals with DV everyday. "
