One of three employees that was working in the building at the time said the could smell the smoke but was not sure how the fire started. He said they tried for about 30 minutes to put out the fire with a hose but it spread before they could get it extinguished.
Deputy Chief Michael Kennan said the call came in at 6:25 p.m. Crews from Central Mat-Su responded with nine trucks including their big ladder truck. Kennan said the fire was contained to one room with in about 5 minutes of arriving on scene. By 7:30 p.m. crews were beginning their initial investigation to determine what might have caused the fire.
