(ROBERT DeBERRY/Frontiersman) Mat-Su Central fire fighters use the big ladder truck to gain access to the upper area at Consteel Concrete Friday evening.

WASILLA—Several crews from Mat-Su Central Fire Department and one crew from the Palmer Fire Department knocked down a structure fire at Consteel Concrete off Blue Lupine Road in Wasilla Friday night.

According to one of three employees who were working in the building at the time there was a smell of smoke but he was not sure how the fire started. He said they tried for about 30 minutes to put it out with a hose but it spread before they could get it extinguished.

Deputy Chief Michael Kennan said the call came in at 6:25 p.m. Crews from Central Mat-Su responded with nine trucks including their big ladder truck. Kennan said the fire was contained to one room with in about 5 minutes of arriving on scene.
