West Valley scored a 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-10) Mid Alaska Conference win over the Hawks on Friday.
“We had a slow start with a couple of serving errors, but once we got going our offense was really good,” West Valley head coach Dave Cox said.

“I am proud of the girls we just have to hang in there and work,” said Houston head coach Lynn Edwards.
In the first game the Hawks’ offense kept them close as they battled back and forth with the Wolfpack.
Although the offense played well, Edwards felt the communication of the her team hindered a chance at victory, as many West Valley points were scored on balls that simply dropped between players.
“We really need to work on playing as a team and our communication,” Edwards said.
In addition a lack of depth on the volleyball team meant that the Hawks’ rotation on the court was short resulting in player fatigue. The first game was close as both teams traded points until West Valley pulled away late.
The West Valley offense was led by sophomore Julie Mackey who had six kills and four block kills.
“Julie was awesome out there force us, she really played great,” said Cox.
