Time for change at MEA

Published on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 3:32 AM AKST

It is time to take back Matanuska Electric Association.

It is a cooperative. We, the members, are the owners. I have lived in the Mat-Su Valley for 24 years and have been appalled at the millions of dollars spent on lawsuits. MEA even went to court against a fellow board member we voted for.

Stop wasting our money! Use it to lower our incredibly high electric bills. We need a board that looks to cooperate, not sue. We need a board that leads the state in energy issues, not a kingdom that continually divides the Valley. Start cooperating with other energy companies in the state instead of suing them. Use our money to invest in alternative forms of energy that will benefit our children for years to come, not hurt our environment. It’s time for change.

Vote for [Peter] Burchell and [Jane] Kincaid for the MEA board

" Our MEA is out of control and it's time we rein them in. You bet I'll be supporting Kincaid and Burchell! "

" Vote for Peter Burchell and Janet Kinkaid in the next MEA election.

They will be responsible and worthy board members who will put the long-term interests of the member-owners and the Valley ahead of any other interests.

Be sure to vote for MEA board members Burchell and Kinkaid. A vote for them will be a vote for character, cooperation, and for the best interests of the member-owners and the Valley. "

" A vote in favor of the bylaw change, and a vote for Burchell and Kincaid for the board, are two steps everyone can take to restore trust and integrity to OUR co-op. "

" Our co-op is in pretty bad shape. Management isn't trusted to be honest with the members. Management runs the board, not the board supervising management. Members are belittled by the board for "not having enough letters behind their names". Management refuses to tell the board members or the member-owners how much we actually spend in lawsuits each year. We sue the borough rather than try to work toward an equitable solution that benefits everyone. And we get to pay for it in the form of electric bills that are higher than they should be. "

" There are three in my family taht are MEA members. Who knows how many of our votes really count there though. We will be going down to check our signature cards. It's pretty bad when you lose trust in your own co-op but we have.
This family will be voting for Kincaid and Burchell also. "

" Burchell and Kincaid are the only choice for anyone who is tired of business as usual at MEA. We need to return to a co-op that puts its members first. "
